Dr. Parks has been a resident of Brandon, Florida since 1984. He began work at Brandon Regional Hospital as an ER Physician in 1981. As a graduate of the University of South Florida, he went on to complete his graduate training in New Orleans, Louisiana at the hospital system connected with Tulane University. Some of his training consisted of work at Charity Hospital in downtown New Orleans.
Dr. Parks then went on to serve in the National Health Service Corps. He was assigned to a small town in South Carolina (Landrum) where he practiced in what was then called “The Rural Health Initiative”. He relocated back to the Tampa area and began working as an Emergency Room Physician.
Sensing the need for Primary Care Physicians in the area, Dr. Parks decided to open his private practice in October 1983. Dr. Parks has been an active participant in community affairs. He was instrumental in founding the Brandon Outreach Clinic that serves the needs of the under-insured and medically needed. The clinic has been successfully running for 20 years. Dr. Parks still serves on the Board of Directors and as Medical Director.
Dr. Parks has been a member of the Brandon Hospital staff since 1981. He has served on numerous boards including six years on the Board of Trustees. Besides working as a busy physician, Dr. Parks was asked to do a series of short medical information segments for WFLA radio. Radio hosts, Jack & Ted and Dr. Parks would discuss important medical topics of the day on Thursday mornings.
Dr. Parks has been married to Marian Zambito Parks for 42 years. They have 2 grown sons and 4 wonderful grandchildren.
The Brandon community is a very important aspect of Dr. Parks’ family and his life. He is a member of the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. He is the recipient of the Key Citizen Award presented by the Brandon Chamber of Commerce and Service to Mankind Award presented by the Sertoma Club. Service to the community and patients of Brandon Area Primary Care is of the utmost importance and the primary focus of Brandon Area Primary Care.
